Camps for Summer 2010 are being planned now. Look for some of our same camps as well as some ongoing Art classes over the summer, a Summer Haven program for children ages 3 - 6, and a few Journey School Reunion days.

Sense of Wonder Nature Camps (ages 4 – 8)
Acres of wilderness in Andover, VT, including woodlands, a pond, and a variety of landscapes provide a rich, natural environment to awaken a child’s sense of wonder for the natural world.
This camp, hosted by Meg Minehan at her home on East Hill in Andover, is a celebration of nature, music, art and community. Activities include: singing, dancing, cooperative games, nature crafting, wilderness and pond exploration, storytelling, drama, art, campfire circles and ample outdoor play and discovery. Children will also participate in age-appropriate hiking, fort-building, wilderness cooking, and orienteering activities. Remember – this camp will be helod in Andover, Vermont. Taught by Meg Minehan and Lisa Crocker.

Creative Arts Camp (ages 4 – 8)
Join Emily for some messy, creative & fun arts exploration this summer! Weather permitting, this camp will be outside and we’ll be celebrating nature through our projects. As always, wear clothes that can get messy or bring a smock. Water shoes are encouraged as we will be taking daily trips to the river.

Theatre Arts (ages 8 – 10)
Join the fun as kids enjoy creative movement, pantomime, role-playing, improvisation, puppetry and joke telling while learning how to use their voices, imagination and hidden talents. Jeanne Waldren, a long-time educator and summer program coordinator, brings her own theater experience to the youth and this session.

Creative Arts and Crafts Camp (ages 8 – 10)
This three day offering brings together several forms of arts and crafts for the child who likes to try a little of everything. Among the samplings will be tie-dye, sand art, nature craft, two or tree types of collage, painting and drawing and a bit of music and dance. This will be a hands-on class offering choice and guidance into the realm of all things artsy. Taught by Jeanne Waldren, a creative and curious educator, who will guide the children through the freedom of art and fun. Participants will need to bring a t-shirt or bandana for the tie-dye.

Parent and Child Playgroup (ages 1 – 5)
This will be a gently facilitated playgroup in our KinderHaven and outdoor space. We must keep our toys played with and our dolls fed during the summer! Lisa will guide the morning in a gentle rhythm that includes simple cooking, free play, easy and satisfying crafting for the parents, a short circle time, a nourishing snack, outdoor time and a closing puppet play. Group size will be limited to create a nurturing environment for the children.

African Drumming Workshop (ages 8 – 15)
Mike Turk, that fun loving music teacher at Flood Brook Union School, teaches this one week African drum class for all ages and levels. Come learn cool drumming techniques and rhythms with different parts for each player. Bring your own drum, or one will be provided.
August 3 – 7, 10:00 – 11:00

Exploring Basic Design with Textiles (ages 10 – 14)
Textiles have been used for clothing, accessories, room décor and even art for centuries. This is an opportunity to explore creative design with a variety of materials, focusing on what inspires each child the most and inventing/designing a simple project based on her own discovery.
Participants will choose a theme based on brainstorming and discovering each child’s inspiration and interest, narrow ideas to create a project, learn simple drawing and note skills to help run with an idea or finalize a theme, and plan the construction process - choosing materials, draping, measurements, and creating or using a pattern. Class is led by Kim Rak, artist, educator, and designer.

Family Drumming Circle
We would like to keep our drumming class on the drums this summer by having a few family drumming circles. The schedule is still TBD. For current information on drumming circle events, check here. It will be updated all through the summer, so check often!
Women’s Song Circle
Songs celebrating peace, our earth and women! We welcome all ages and abilities. Check here for updated meeting times in case we have vacation schedule conflicts. No fee, by donation.
