Our School is Located in Chester, Vermont. We serve the town of Chester and surrounding areas - many of our children come from various towns: Springfield, Ludlow, Mount Holly, Townsend, Jamaica, Andover, Bellows Falls, Westminster.
Mission
We create a place for children and families to feel supported in their educational choices. We provide a healthy, safe, creative, and child-led learning environment. We plant the seeds of a growing community where common ideals are shared. We allow this community to be our Teacher, bringing us the opportunity to create peace and harmony in our daily lives, in our neighborhood, and in the world.
Philosophy
We believe in every child’s innate desire to learn, and in their natural ability to do so. We do not coerce children into learning. Instead, we provide a rich array of learning materials, resources, and opportunities, while allowing a child freedom and time to explore what really moves him. We believe this is the basis for successful learning.
With freedom comes responsibility, for the teachers and children alike. Within this framework of freedom and responsibility, children are expected to contribute to the school community by participating positively in the activities of the day, with teachers providing guidance as to how this can best happen for each child, while respecting each child’s individual needs and learning style.
We believe an intimate relationship with the natural world is crucial to the healthy continuance of our planet, and to the soul of every human being. We acknowledge the impact of the children’s time spent with us – and provide an aesthetically pleasing, homelike environment, one that respects children as individuals - mind, body, and spirit.
We believe parents have the right to be deeply involved in their children’s education, and encourage participation in the classroom, and dialogue with our teachers and staff to share insights, experiences, challenges, and ideas on the journey.
